Rampage2K-
Watching m&m this morning and schefter was on and mentioned Case Keenum as possible target for Vikes to go after....
Doubt it would ever happen, but if they're throwing next years number one at us I'm taking that call.
#1. Keenum is currently the Rams' best QB. And not only because Fisher has designated the #1 guy. As a performer he actually IS the #1 guy. Why would you trade him away?
#2. Let's even assume Goff becomes #1 sooner than later. Wouldn't you feel much better about Keenum as the #2 than Mannion as the #2? Many of us right;ly, in my view, jumped all over Fisher and Snead for not securing a solid backup behind Sam, if only because Sam seemed clearly injury prone. They didn't get one and when Sam went down, that was that. Why repeat that mistake?
Mannion is.
Keenum is a free agent after this season and it appears very unlikely to me that they will sign him to the fairly large contract a vet QB commands. Backup vet QBs are getting contracts in the $7 mil. plus range. And if he plays decently well this year as a starter he may get more than that.
Since Mannion was a 3rd round pick and has looked pretty good with a year of development, they will most likely go with him as an inexpensive #2. I actually believe they drafted him largely with that intent in mind.
Also, with the way Mannion has developed, I'd be comfortable with him as a #2 as he long as he keeps growing. I see no reason why he wouldn't eventually be as good or better than Keenum.
If someone came offering a 1st or 2nd round pick for Keenum, I think they would trade him in a heartbeat. No one will offer close to that so he won't be traded.
