Clearly, Aaron Rogers wasn't ready to play as a rookie. And they had an aging, but good, QB in Favre.
But a couple of years learning the system, understanding the game, countless practices, and he became a star.
Clearly, Goff is not ready to play as a rookie. Could he if he had to? Sure. But they'd have to cut the playbook down and run only the plays that they felt comfortable with him running.
None of that is actually clear in the least. Very little of what has been claimed in this thread is clear or accurate.
Favre and Rodgers were not friends early on. Both of them admit it and have said publically that Favre did nothing to assist Rodgers as he viewed him as a competitor, not somebody to help. In fact, Farve actually credits Rodgers for helping him learn Mike McCarthy’s system after Mike Sherman was fired, which was only Rodgers 2nd year in the league. It wasn’t until later, after Favre had left Green Bay, that they actually developed a somewhat friendly relationship.
Rodgers didn’t magically become one of the best QB’s in the NFL, one of the best in NFL history, by sitting on the bench. And he didn’t arrive in the league with anywhere near the training or readiness deficit Goff has. The ONLY reason Rodgers sat was because he had a Hall of Famer QB in front of him. And Rodgers apparently got under some defensive coaches and players skin during practice because he ran the scout team too good and too hard, making them look bad. This is not the kind of thing we hear coming out about Goff.
Here’s what you need to know about his preseason stats as a rookie. He didn’t play that much but he still beat out journeyman backup types such as JT O’Sullivan (another of the best QB’s Martz ever coached) and Craig Null (remember him?) to be Favre’s backup and to basically allow Green Bay to feel comfortable only carrying two active QB’s on their roster. As for his regular season “appearances” as a rookie, all but one or two of his pass attempts came in a single game, a 43-3 blowout, where they threw in the towel and gave him mop-up duty.
