But for me it's simply a matter of NOT having seen him in a position to flash greatness... so it's not that I think it's not in him.
Outta curiosity - are you 'flashing' back to his college days and including that? I didn't really see him much in college... welllll, I did, but I don't remember him specifically.
In the Pro's the closest I've seen to reaching that category was the drops in this last game... passes in the red zone, AND in traffic, that were pretty darned accurate and under pressure. Hmmmm, so let me rephrase... I guess I HAVE seen 'flashes of greatness' in the sense that his 'calm and staying collected' in a game situation was very, very good, IMHO. - JamesJM
No, this is just from watching him now, and I have seen the struggles.
But the way I look at players I look for "very few other human beings can do that" traits that may show through even if they are struggling at first.
I personally feel that way about Goff. Cosell said that they did not make it easy on him and did not cut the offense down for him as a lot of teams that start rookie qbs do. The way Cosell put it, other young qbs are asked to play Mary Had a Little Lamb and Goff has been asked to play Mahler. That offense has a lot of sight adjustments and audibles built into it and you can see him having trouble right now handling it all at game speed. But in the middle of the struggles, I also see plays that to me flash.
I don't even know if that's right, I just know that;s the sense I personally get watching him.
