I think for me, and a few others, while a WR not being able to get open is a concern, the far bigger concern is simply catching the football when it arrives.
I have not seen our WRs unable to get open as a general rule except as we work out way down the roster in these preseason games. And, not every play for any team does a WR alwasys come open.
Rather the issue is when a QB throws the ball, too many of our WRs a) drop run of the mill, garden variety passes, and b) 50/50 balls are more like 10/90 balls. The ONLY WR I have seen during the preseason win 50/50 balls was Spruce.
This WR issue doesn't only affect the score, it affects the QB. If he doesn't think you're gonna catch it, or especially if you are somewhat covered, he's not going to throw it to you if he doesn't have confidence that you indeed will catch it OR at least prevent an INT.
Watch Dak Prescott work with Dez Bryant. He simply throws the ball to him pretty much no matter what because he knows that usually Dez will get it.
Other teams have similar combinations. Rogers had that with Jordy Nelson; so when Nelson went down the Packers passing game suffered, as did Rogers.
It used to be that way with Boldin and whatever QB.
But the Rams haven't had anyone like that in a very long time. And it is a QB killer and an offense killer.
So Fisher and Snead need to do something about that asap. Spruce might be a big help there, and perhaps in a few games, Higbee.
