McNair was drafted in 1995 #3 overall. He played a little here and there his first year and if I recall he started a couple of games but didn't finish them and struggled. The next year he played a little early on and he started a few games and flashed what he was going to become. When they moved to TN he became the full time starter and the rest is history.
Now I've never believed we can figure out what Fisher is going to do based on his past because we have seen him do things he hasn't done enough times that his history is no indication of his future. That said he isn't going to rush and he has said that, and frankly there is no reason for him to rush.
His job isn't on the line. Losing won't effect attendance unless it goes on for a few years. Goff is clearly not ready to plug in yet and I would guess they knew that when they selected him. Fisher doesn't bow to fan/media pressure as evidenced by many things the most prominent being taking plenty of time to bring McNair along. How many players drafted #3 overall don't become a starter until their 3rd year at ANY position? Can anyone name the last time that has happened?
It's very possible that Goff doesn't play a lot this entire season. He may end up throwing 100 or so passes early AND late in games to get his sea legs and then he takes over the starting role in camp next year. I don't think they will wait until year three but I do think there is a possibility/chance he isn't really the starter this year.
