What I keep hearing is that 1) Nobody pays the SB in one lump sum (especially for the highest picks) and 2) offset language is pretty standard even though not universal.
Also that basically a balance is usually sought between how much SB is paid all at once, versus offset language. So if Offset is included, then the SB is paid out more quickly. Or no offset and the SB is paid out over a longer period of time.
Here's the thing: on the NFL channel and most of the other NFL related shows, the players aren't showing any solidarity with Bosa. They're saying get into camp and start playing.
I think the issue for me is the Bosa is acting as though he is Andrew Luck, a rare prize. Bosa is by no means a rare prize, even if a team judged him 3rd best player in the draft. Teams understand that they may have to do something a bit different for the Franchise QB position, just like the Rams did in acquiring Goff. QBs are the exception to the rule......players understand that. But DE's?
It's pretty clear from Bosa's own camp that he wants no offset and the entire SB immediately. For a non-QB, non-rare guy? Ain't gonna happen.
And this fight is not a good thing, if player/team/teammate relationship has any bearing on the player's career. And it does.
