We have 2 pro-bowlers and a punter (yay) who are elite. Where is all the other 'talent' that Snisher has stocked? The 2nd best defender on the team was here before them. Our secondary is weak and our linebackers are, for the most part, unremarkable. Our WR group is one of the worst in the league. Our TE group is average to poor with no marquee name. Our O-line's best player is made out of glass (though Havenstein might be the best of the group this season).
Again - I'm not seeing all this 'talent' up and down the roster. I know we like our guys cause they're our guys, but when it's November and you're watching our DB's play soft coverage beyond the sticks on 3rd and 6 and Kenny Britt can't go up and grab a contested ball - see if you will feel the same way about the 'talent' on our roster.
No GM can hit it on every draft but there are some real head scratchers in the first 3 drafts - GRob was not ready to play, not a great idea for a #2 pick in the age of rookie contracts, Austin is a gadget player they moved up to grab - even though they had a roster with no no.1 receiver. Pead and Quick - enough said. Joyner was a reach. You grab a 5'8 corner with a 2nd round pick who can't match up on the outside, why? No legit developmental QB for the first 2 years, but they spent a draft pick on Garret Gilbert - granted it was a late rounder, but that guy had camp arm written all over him. Other than Ogletree have they drafter a linebacker who can start? And oh yeah, they drafted and developed a shut-down corner so he can walk away to another team.
I don't really see above average talent up and down the Rams roster either. I would say the Rams have average talent for an NFL team. Gurley, Donald and Quinn are elite talents, but who else? Goff may be eventually, but we don't know yet. TA can be electrifying, but he's not elite for a WR. The WR's and LB corp as a whole are below average. The secondary and OL is average. DL is very good. The RB's as a whole are above average. QB's are average right now. TE's are average.
The team is very young. I do believe the WR's, OL and QB's can get better with coaching and reps. If Goff, Spruce and Higbee have Pro Bowl type seasons, I can see playoffs in the horizon. I also believe that there may be another WR in this young group that has potential to be a major contributor. There's a lot of ambiguity with this team right now. I think there is potential for the current crop of young players to develop, but that's it right now.
