spoke with a former NFL player about Keenum/Goff

August 10, 2016 08:05AM
Just an FYI. A colleague at my company is a former NFL player who many here age 40+ would remember. Not a star but a 10-year veteran who played throughout the 80s and in a couple Super Bowls. He was later a sports radio personality in a city he played in and an assistant coach with two teams.

Anyway, he and I have chatted a few times and most recently he knew I was a Rams fan and we chatted a bit about football. He was around Keenum for a year and called him "a tough and hard-working guy that can be the kind of QB you want ('game manager') while Goff gets acclimated." He also said "If they sit Goff a little while it won't hurt him. You can learn some things as a rookie by sitting- but not a lot... If it takes one to four games for him to be ready that's fine. They just can't sit him all year. He'll need to learn by doing- even if he's doing the wrong things."
