I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of kindness..... it's been a tough 2 weeks, and reading this thread brought tears to my eyes. I appreciate everyone taking the time to keep me in your thoughts and prayers.
The recovery for this surgery has been much slower and more difficult than the others I've had (pretty much at the same level as the gastric bypass I had in 2013). I was basically opened up from the bottom edge of my sternum to an inch below the belly button - roughly a 12" incision. The surgeon reiterated to me that I had an hour..... maybe 2 at the most, left to live. The kink was in the first foot of the intestine, and the entire organ was discolored due to blood loss. He wasnt sure he could do anything initially, but remarkably once he fixed the twist, the organ began to come back to life after the blood flow was restored.
Hopefully I've tackled the tough part of the healing process and can get back to some semblance of normalcy soon. I've lost 8 pounds (that I didnt need to lose), dont have an appetite, and feel nauseous any time I eat. I'm eating soft foods at the moment while the intestine recovers from the trauma it was put through, and drinking protein shakes to get some protein in my system to prevent muscle loss.
