I'll have to admit that evaluating an offensive lineman can be challenging. After all, you typically only hear their names called out when they've committed an infraction or gotten beat on a play. And sometimes, when they've been charged with allowing a sack, it can be the result of a QB holding on to the ball for too long. Regardless, though, there has to be some type of objective measuring sticks for us to evaluate progress (or lack thereof).
For example, last season Greg Robinson was credited with committing 16 penalties. Of these, 11 were for holding while 4 were for false starts.

Washington Post / StatsWhat type of reduction in these two key measurable areas would lead you to believe that G-Rob is clearly an ascending player? 25% decrease? 50%?
What if Gurley rushes for over 1500 yards and the majority of those yards come off the left side? Would Robinson get any credit from you for that?
