because it's been determined that's all he can do. I don't know about that.. I DO know I'd at least make the attempt to expand his role(s).
I don't disagree with anything you said... as you know where you and I disagree in that you accept Fisher's determination and use of him without question, I do not.
Me: I don't think Austin has what it takes to be a #1 or #2 WR... well, maybe on the Rams but not most teams. I do, however, think he'd work out better than any #3 we have and most #3's in the league.
Me: RB... nope, can't see it, here I think he's being used in the most appropriate manner although he should probably get a few more carries... as it was... with Gurley, should Gurley be what we're expecting, then no... no need for more carries.
Me at my most controversial and ignorant: I don't think Austin likes company, for a few reasons... well designed blocking schemes on PR's, for example, are not his forte. I think Austin is a 'by ear', or rather 'by sight' player and always will be... when rigorously funneled and made to 'conform' I think he struggles. I think I'd like to see our ST coach say to Austin, "Ok we're going to from a wall 'here', use it if you want but I'd prefer you make it us as you go".
Lastly, (not being said argumentatively, just noting)... Imagine the 99's Rams without Hakim, Proehl, Horne... all somewhat 'niche'. I don't think we get past the Vikes without em', or perhaps even to the Vikes. The so called 'niche' player has a bad rap... truth is, IMHO, they are as necessary as the guys who get the headlines and sell the most jersey's. - JamesJM
