True, there were injuries. And they were totally decimated at CB. But beyond a few severe injuries and retirements SO MANY of the players the Rams did not retain for 2012 never played in the NFL again. That says a lot.
Actually I did the numbers on that once and in fact many did play in the NFL again. Many, many of the ones who didn't were the in-season injury replacements I talked about.
It's really a myth that a huge percentage of the 2011 roster never played again (the media IMO was responsible for that myth. They took things at face value and didn't analyze). If you start with the week 1 roster and separate those from the in-season replacements you get a different picture. As I said, most of those numbers come from in-season injury replacements who were available because they were on the street. Plus you add in the career ending injuries to the list of those who never played again.
And it's not just that they had injuries. As I said, according to Football Outsiders, the 2011 Rams were the single most injured offense in the league since 2002.
If you look at the actual week 1 roster, a normal percentage of those played again in the league.
