Hockenson. Yeah yeah...he wasn't there for us. But...why not start looking for that guy next year?
Now before you shoot your arrows...think of this.
Jared Goff, IMO, is good QB. However, he needs parts around him.
McVay may not have a big TE in his offense but in my view, he needs to rethink based on the talent of his QB.
Can you imagine a big TE getting 15+ yards vs. Kupp getting 5+ yards?
Do you really think Kupp is going to hold up? Well...I don't.
As I've stated before, the SINGLE most beneficial thing McVay could do for a Goff-like QB from a weapon standpoint is get him a TE that can stretch the field a bit...that can catch a pass downfield between the hashes. We flat out don't have that and defenses know it. Goff is a QB that needs a safety blanket...now it's Kupp but he can't do it downfield between the hashes. No even remotely.
We have Cooks and sometimes Woods who play that role but it's not the answer.
I'll say it again...and again...and again...Everett is NOT a TE...he is a big receiver that lines up on the outside. In fact...watch the film...he is split wide, on passing situations.
Hockenson did in one game what it takes Everett 3/4 of a season to accomplish. I don't expect Everett to be Hockenson. But...for all the accolades we heard out of camp, Everett is a has-been...no...a never-been.
And you all may have thought I forgot! HA!!!
Everett was instrumental on a holding call. Nice! Otherwise...1 catch for 7 yards...STUD!
