Not sure I've ever seen such a debacle for Jacksonville as I saw last night between the Titans and the Jags.
The Jags Offense was the Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight, and the Jags Defense followed a hands-off policy.
They have quit on Marrone. And for good reason. He wants to play an antiquated style of football that doesn't work. He wants to power run the football (3 yards and a cloud of dust), and he wants to play great D. Problem is, you can't score enough points to win in that style of offense, and the D can't be physical enough with the new rules that are in place that favor the O. Great D means something different that it used to mean. It means rushing the passer and defending the pass. All else on D is superfluous. You can be run on for 200 yards and still win when you have a dynamic offense.
Not sure Tom Coughlin gets it either. We'll see. If Marrone and his Over The Hill Gang is fired and replaced with offense minded HC and assistants, then it means that Coughlin sees the writing on the wall. If not, Jax is in for another year of futility.
As for Marriotta: did not like him coming out. He'll forever be a tease; just another in a long line of marginal NFL QBs who are inaccurate and inconsistent passers, whose highlight reel is filled with him running the ball. And then of course missing games due to injury from running, and constantly playing dinged up. I can't imagine why the Titans would want to re-sign Marriotta; they need to move on. But they'll probably ask themselves who can we get that's better? And that means they'll make the mistake of keeping him. He's Colin Kapernick without the 'fro or martyr complex.
